PGI has its roots in centerless grinding, specializing in form grinding. We can centerless form grind diameters to less than .050 inch, and diameters up to 2.0 inch and above. Tolerances of .0002 total tolerance are routinely held.
Infeed centerless grinding of multiple diameters really sets us apart from the rest. In addition to being a very cost efficient method of producing parts, grinding multiple diameters at once maintains and improves diametrical relationships. Our equipment requires a minimum of special tooling. And our employees have decades of experience producing these types of parts. We also perform efficient thru-feed grinding. Single diameter parts can be produced very cost effectively utilizing this grinding method.
We perform operations not normally associated with centerless grinding. Flats and slots can be ground on round parts often more cost effectively than conventional milling operations. These features can be machined into standard, off the shelf dowels pins to eliminate a costly long lead time special pin. We can also machine these features in your hardened components. Many times, machining these features after heat treat eliminates heat treat distortion.
Need an undercut bolt? One where the shank has been reduced for clearance or for a shear pin effect? We have produced thousands. We can take an off the shelf fastener and centerless grind away the area to be reduced. The amount of material we can remove is truly amazing.
The speed with which it is done is a small fraction of conventional turning methods. The cost is usually far under that of a special bolt, and only a fraction of the leadtime.
We have mastered grinding forms on pure tungsten blanks. Anyone who has tried to machine tungsten knows how difficult it is. We form and thru-feed grind tungsten daily. If you have an application in a truly difficult to machine material, give us a try.
