Solutions
Above
all, PGI is a company that provides solutions for its customers. By
combining our internal manufacturing capabilities, engineering, and
expertise with those of an extensive supplier base, we can often
provide a complex component or assembly complete.
Machine, heat treat, and grind are a very common production sequence
for us. Our grinding experience allows us to machine with the
optimum amount of grind stock. Enough grind stock so that parts
clean up after heat treat, but not so much as to require excessive
time in the grinding operation. We handle grind, plate, and grind
sequences in much the same manner. Enough plating to assure
clean-up, but not too much to incur additional plating and grinding
costs.
Product is fabricated by producing all of the components, and then
pressing, bolting, brazing, or welding them together. Some
assemblies are produced by machining the components, assembling, and
then performing additional machining processes on the assemblies.
Thread inserts, SAE port plugs, and expanding plugs can be
installed. We perform testing operations such as pressure, vacuum,
and leak testing. And we match components to provide minimum
clearances and exacting fits.
The design and fabrication of tools and fixtures is performed
in-house to provide improved quality and reduce lead time. Examples
include designing a part driver so that the part could be ground
between centers in one operation. This reduced the process by one
operation, and improved quality by virtually eliminating diameter to
diameter run out. Another example is a grinding chuck, designed and
fabricated in house. This chuck was used to minimize chucking
pressure on a very thin walled automotive transmission component.
The effect of the cycle time improvement and the elimination of
scrap yielded a near doubling of process output.
We have utilized conventional equipment to innovate nonconventional
solutions for parts. Centerless grinding slots and flats in hardened
parts is just one example. Special form grinding is another. These
non-traditional applications have reduced cost and lead time to our
customers.
We are experienced in the different types of purchasing techniques
and tools being utilized today. We currently interface with our
customers using requirements contracts, Kanban, purchasing
agreements, and other similar tools. Lead times as short as one week
(and sometimes less) can be achieved by producing and holding
inventory until a customer demand releases it.
Why incur the extra time, cost, and risk of managing a part through
multiple operations and services? Let us do that for you. By working
with your personnel and handling the entire job, we can often
produce your product at a reduced cost, improved quality, and
reduced lead time.
At PGI we always strive to supply the best value possible to our
customers!
Quality products, on time, as promised
