Contract Manufacturing Spotlight
One & Done!
Our desire for safer, stronger, and more durable products has led to the development of precision components of remarkable sophistication. However, more sophisticated, multi-step processes are often required to manufacture them, leaving little room for error.
The spool blank in inset above is such an example. Manufactured from 12L14 steel for use in the hydraulic control valve industry, its accuracy is vital, so it has precision tolerances for size, straightness, roundness, concentricity, and surface finish. The material is also heat treated since the component must endure a long life cycle. Manufacturing this part entails:
- Raw Material Acquisition
- Swiss Machining
- Thermal Debur
- Heat Treatment
- Centerless Grind, rough
- Centerless Grind, finish
When even one element of manufacturing is not met, painful expenses quickly add up as the setback affects the entire supply chain.
Given our range of capabilities and years of experience, our customer determined that Profile could more skillfully manage this component, and lessened their risk by taking advantage of our contract machining and manufacturing services. Rather than juggling multiple vendors with multiple purchase orders, prices, lead times, intermediate logistics, and actual deliveries, they now place just one purchase order!
